I‘m committed to giving it to you straight, so you can decide if Legends is worth your hard-earned cash. Sound good? Let‘s get started!
What Is Legends?
Legends is a premium athletic apparel brand that‘s been generating serious buzz since launching in 2017. Founded by industry vets Chip Neff and Scott Hachstadt, Legends‘ mission is to create high-quality, high-performance clothing that seamlessly transitions from the gym to the street.
The idea for Legends was born when Neff and Hachstadt noticed a gap in the men‘s athleisure market. They saw plenty of brands catering to women or focused solely on performance, but few that combined cutting-edge technical fabrics with elevated, modern style.
Neff and Hachstadt decided to join forces, leveraging their decades of experience building global apparel brands. Fun fact: Neff actually had Snoop Dogg and Scarlett Johansson as previous clients – so you know he runs in some pretty cool circles!
Fast forward to today, and Legends has grown into a multimillion-dollar business loved by pro athletes, celebrities, and regular gym-goers alike. The brand has collaborations with the NBA and NFL Players Associations, and has been featured everywhere from ESPN to GQ.
So what‘s the secret sauce behind Legends‘ meteoric rise? According to Business Insider, it comes down to a few key factors:
- Technical, innovative fabrics you won‘t find from other brands
- Unique, fashion-forward designs with a streetwear sensibility
- Meticulous attention to detail and quality (everything is designed and made in LA)
- Inclusive sizing and fits for a wide range of body types
- Values of community, authenticity, and creativity infused into the brand
As Legends designer Allie Lantagne told Esquire, "We don‘t want to be just another athletic brand. We want to push the boundaries of what streetwear inspired athletic wear can be, and really elevate the space with products that perform at the highest level."
With that background in mind, I was beyond excited to finally get my hands on some Legends gear and put it to the test. I‘ll be giving you my honest thoughts on some of their bestselling pieces – and letting you know how they stack up to other athleisure brands I‘ve tried.
Legends Clothing Reviews
Before we dive into the detailed product reviews, it might be helpful to see how Legends compares to other top athleisure brands. Check out this handy table:
Brand | Price Range | Quality | Performance | Style |
---|---|---|---|---|
Legends | $30 – $150 | 4.5/5 | 4.5/5 | 5/5 |
Lululemon | $30 – $200 | 5/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 |
Rhone | $30 – $150 | 4/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
Vuori | $50 – $150 | 4.5/5 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 |
Outdoor Voices | $30 – $150 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 5/5 |
As you can see, Legends holds its own in the company of other premium athleisure brands. In my opinion, they really excel in terms of style and design – these are pieces that look just as great on the street as they do in the gym.
Alright, now onto the products! I tried 6 different Legends pieces in total – two pairs of shorts, a hoodie, two tees, and a pair of joggers. Here are my honest thoughts:
Legends Relay Short Tie Dye Navy Review
The Relay Short is one of Legends‘ all-time bestsellers, and I can totally see why. The design is super eyecatching with a bold navy and red tie-dye pattern. But these aren‘t just a pretty face – the Relay Shorts are packed with technical features too.
The lightweight, 4-way stretch fabric wicks sweat and dries quickly, while the bonded hems and optional liner provide a chafe-free, supportive fit. I wore these for an intense outdoor HIIT workout and was really impressed with how well they performed. The material moved with me easily and kept me comfortable the whole time.
Another plus is the zip pocket on the back right, which is big enough to hold a phone or keys. I love that I can head out for a workout or errand run without needing to bring a separate bag.
At $60, the Relay Shorts are definitely pricier than your basic gym shorts. But considering the high-end fabrics and construction, I think they‘re well worth it. The versatile length and regular fit also make them appropriate for just about any activity or occasion – I can see myself wearing these lounging at home just as much as working out.
The bottom line: The Legends Relay Shorts are a worthy splurge for anyone seeking a high-performance, high-style athletic short. I recommend going with your usual size for a comfy, relaxed fit.
Legends Luka Short HD Static Black Review
If you‘re looking for a short with a slimmer, more modern silhouette, the Luka HD Static Black is an excellent choice. HD stands for "heavy duty" and it‘s an apt description – these bad boys are built to last.
The shorts are made from a ripstop stretch fabric that feels super durable and abrasion-resistant. I‘ve worn and washed my Lukas countless times and they still look brand new.
I really like the fit of the Luka compared to other athletic shorts I‘ve tried. The 5.5 inch inseam and tapered leg provide great mobility and show a little more thigh, which I find more flattering than a baggier short. The curved hem is also a nice style detail.
Another standout feature is the waistband – it‘s super soft and stretchy with an internal drawstring for the perfect fit. I have pretty muscular quads and glutes, and often have issues with shorts being too tight in those areas, but the Lukas fit me really well.
Functionally, these shorts exceeded my expectations too. The four-way stretch is no joke – I felt completely uninhibited doing box jumps and squats. The sweat-wicking, quick-drying fabric also kept me cool and dry through a 90 degree garage workout.
My one small complaint is that the front pockets are pretty shallow. You can fit a card and key in there, but not much else. I prefer the zip back pocket of the Relay Short for securely holding my phone.
The bottom line: The Legends Luka HD Shorts are a top pick for guys who want a slimmer-fitting, ultra-durable training short. If you have larger legs, definitely give these a try – you won‘t be disappointed by the fit.
Legends Coronado Tee Polaris Heather Grey Review
Every athleisure wardrobe needs some great basic tees, and the Coronado Tee from Legends is a worthy contender. This shirt is insanely soft and comfortable right out of the package.
The tri-blend fabric is a mix of cotton, polyester, and rayon – it has the coziness of cotton but with added sweat-wicking, quick-dry properties. I‘ve been wearing my Coronado as an everyday/all-purpose tee, and I have to say it‘s holding up beautifully. No pilling, shrinking or bacon neck after repeated washes.
Fit-wise, the Coronado has a slimmer, athletic cut – but it‘s not so tight that it‘s uncomfortable or revealing. I‘m 5‘9", 185lbs and wear a large in most brands, and the large Coronado fits me perfectly.
The "Polaris" graphic on the front is understated but adds a cool pop of contrast to the heather grey tee. I like that it‘s not too loud or in-your-face. The reflective ink is also a functional detail for added visibility if you‘re running or training outdoors at night.
At $35, the Coronado Tee is competitively priced with other premium athleisure tees. Brands like Vuori and Rhone sell similar tri-blend shirts for $40-50+, so I think Legends offers great value here.
The bottom line: The Legends Coronado Tee is a super-soft, high-quality basic that works for both training and everyday wear. It has a great slim fit and the subtle graphic adds a touch of style. Highly recommend!
Legends Hawthorne Hoodie Heather Brick Review
A cozy, versatile hoodie is an athleisure must-have – and Legends‘ Hawthorne Hoodie is one of the best I‘ve tried. This zip-up is made from a heavyweight stretch fleece that feels substantial but not stiff or bulky.
The first thing I noticed when I put on the Hawthorne was how incredibly plush it feels. The fabric is brushed on the inside for an ultra-soft, luxurious feel. But it‘s not just for lounging – the Hawthorne is designed with performance in mind too.
The hoodie has a number of thoughtful athletic details like raglan sleeves for ease of movement, a scuba hood for extra warmth, and thumbholes to keep the sleeves in place. There are also zip pockets to stash your stuff and a locker loop for easy hanging.
I‘ve been wearing my Hawthorne non-stop since I got it. It‘s perfect for chilly morning walks, as a post-workout layer, and just for hanging out at home. The "heather brick" color I got is a really nice, versatile reddish-orange that pairs well with both neutrals and bolder colors.
Sizing-wise, I went with my usual size large and it fits great – not too snug or tight in the arms/shoulders. The length is perfect too – it hits right at the hip, which I prefer to longer, slouchier hoodies.
At $128, the Hawthorne Hoodie is definitely an investment piece. But considering the premium construction and versatility, I think it‘s absolutely worth it. This is a hoodie I can see myself reaching for season after season, year after year.
The bottom line: The Legends Hawthorne Hoodie is everything I look for in a zip-up – it‘s cozy, functional, and stylish enough to wear beyond workouts. Yes, it‘s pricey, but the quality is top-notch. If you‘re between sizes, I recommend sizing up for a roomier fit.
Is Legends Worth It?
So after trying a range of Legends clothing, would I recommend the brand? Whole-heartedly, yes. I‘m seriously impressed by the quality, performance, and style Legends delivers.
From the innovative fabrics to the flattering fits to the eye-catching designs, it‘s clear that a ton of thought and care goes into each piece. Every item I tried exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort, functionality, and durability.
I know spending $50+ on a pair of shorts or $100+ on a hoodie can be a tough pill to swallow. But in my experience, Legends gear is absolutely worth the investment. You‘re getting premium, technical fabrics and construction that will hold up wash after wash, workout after workout.
Plus, Legends‘ commitment to making products that transition seamlessly from gym to street means you really can wear these pieces for just about anything. The cost per wear is actually quite reasonable when you factor in the versatility.
For me personally, I also love supporting a smaller, independent brand like Legends. Don‘t get me wrong, I still shop from big athletic brands too. But there‘s something special about wearing gear from a company that feels more authentic and connected to its community and customers.
The only downside to Legends, in my opinion, is the limited product selection compared to a giant like Lululemon or Nike. Legends is still a relatively young brand, so they don‘t have a huge range of items (yet). That said, they seem to be dropping new capsules and collections pretty regularly, so I‘m excited to see how the product line grows and evolves.
At the end of the day, if you‘re looking to invest in some really high-quality, stylish athleisure pieces, I can‘t recommend Legends enough. Yes, they‘re a splurge, but I think you‘ll be happy you took the plunge. Legends will have you looking good, feeling great, and crushing your workouts – what more can you ask for?
TLDR: The Legends clothing I tried lived up to the hype and then some. Fantastic quality, performance, and style. Worth the premium price tag IMO. 10/10 would recommend to my fellow athleisure addicts!
